Under sink water filter systems are certainly quite popular today, and the question of the hour is, how good are they? Do they really improve your drinking water quality, or are they merely a decoration, as some filters seem to be?
It's no secret that your sink is where the vast majority of your drinking water comes from. While whole house water filters are all the rage, the reality is, by far the most important element of your health is the water you drink. While you might look into a whole house system later on to help with your shower water, for now an under the sink water filters should suffice.
There are a lot of models to choose from, so picking the right one is by no means a simple process. Most of them of course claim to take out most of the harmful substances in water, but the reality is, some do a better job than others, and this is they are all sold at various prices.
One important thing to look for is that the under sink water filter can get the pH level to anywhere from 7.4 to 9.5. If it's between these two numbers, this is ideal. Make sure it is effective at reducing chlorine and other chemicals and metal.
However, if it's not a 4 stage alkaline water filter system, keep in mind that 4 stage alkaline water filters will not allow any bad things to slip by, but instead will leave the mineral in the water and raise the pH level as well. While the reverse osmosis and distillation systems do rightly claim that they can take out all the negative things in your water, they also take out the good nutrients.
The great thing about an under sink water filter is that they are usually very simple to install. As long as you are able to perform basic mechanical functions around the home, even such as putting in a new light bulb, you should be able to handle this task. All you really have to do is screw them to the valve under your sink, and you should be done.
